Answers to Questions About Usage #3

Answers to Questions About Usage #3 Answers to Questions About Usage #3 Answers to Questions About Usage #3 By Mark Nichol Here are a few inquiries from DailyWritingTips.com perusers about the wording of different expressions, trailed by my reactions. 1. In a book I simply read, the writer twice utilizes the articulation â€Å"least worse.† I comprehend what he implies, yet this strikes me as a lousy neologism, and I sense that it is ridiculous under â€Å"the rules† yet I can't devise an elective that isn’t longwinded or top-substantial. Would you be able to recommend something? I concocted a few progressively explicit analogs: â€Å"least onerous,† â€Å"least egregious,† and â€Å"least unfortunate.† I guess the explanation these are worthy and â€Å"least worse† isn’t is that more terrible, in contrast to the others, is a similar descriptor (â€Å"least bad† is better yet at the same time unbalanced) connected with a word meaning the most negligible sum. I’d utilize a suitable noncomparative modifier, for example, the three I recorded in the main sentence of this passage instead of more awful. 2. What does truly mean? In â€Å"John held up an exceptionally full bucket,† in the event that a pail is full, at that point how is a full basin any increasingly full? Far more terrible is â€Å"very, very†: An incredibly, full basin must be even â€Å"fuller† than the full one. In formal, clear utilization, very is perpetually pointless, however it has its place in increasingly casual language. For instance, it’s fitting in a comment about a container containing a flooding fluid or a stacked strong substance: â€Å"That’s an extremely full bucket!† 3. I have an inquiry concerning the expression â€Å"graduating high school† (or school). I have consistently believed that secondary schools and universities were at that point graduated-with, for instance, ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades. Should the development be â€Å"graduated from† as opposed to just graduated? Truly. â€Å"Graduated high school† and comparative expressions are extras from a twentieth-century exertion to shorten the prior use â€Å"was graduated from,† yet the exertion was taken excessively far. â€Å"Graduated high school† happens now and again, yet â€Å"graduated from high school† is standard. The Physics Of An Experiment - 1509 Words

In 1964, John Bell set out to test the arguments originally described in the EPR paper and later more eloquently describe by David Bohm. In the paper by Bohm, he shows how one could conceive of an experiment to mirror the conceptual situation put forth in the EPR paper, by examining the dissociation of a diatomic molecule whose total spin angular momentum is zero. For example, the hydrogen molecule into two hydrogen atoms. In the experiment, the hydrogen atoms would separate after interaction, in different free directions. It is here that an experimenter would measure the spin components whose values are anti-correlated after dissociation. If we define our axis of measuring as the one at right angles to the particles flight, then we can have a consistent measurement. If the measure of hydrogen atom one yields spin- up, measurement along the same axis for the other atom would yield spin-down, to be consistent with total spin equal to zero. This is an interesting experiment because of the incompatibility of spin components makes it analogous to position and mom entum conjugates. Bohm eventually went on to publish a more sophisticated paper with plausible instrumentation to test his theories with Yakir Aharonov in 1957. A thought experiment that is discusses the ideas of Bell’s inequalities are as follows. Examine the portrayal of Life On The Streets in Dickens Essay Example For Students

Examine the portrayal of Life On The Streets in Dickens Essay Examine the portrayal of Life On The Streets in Dickens Oliver Twist and Swindells Stone ColdDickens and Swindell are both social commentators of their time. Both the books deal with the current issues of the time they were written. In both Oliver Twist and Stone Cold the issue of homelessness is the main topic in the book.  Dickens wrote this book to enlighten the people of his time (Victorian) of what was going on in Britain.  Swindell writes with a moral purpose to deter young adults from taking up and living on the streets. Before leaving home both Link and Oliver were treated very badly. Link had more emotional abuse rather than being hurt physically; hed had his dad leaving home and a stepfather Vince moving in who treated Link as if he was unwanted, by locking Link out, and more than anything, Link feels Vince changed his mum. He left home after his GCSEs and lived on the streets; being 16 he wasnt old enough to sign on for benefits but was classed as an adult so he wasnt treated like a child who would be taken care of. Link stayed in Bradford until Christmas. He left after that because he knew too many people there. He found it embarrassing to beg from an old friend or a teacher. For Christmas day he went to Carols (his sister) house; he was given a sleeping bag, which I can agree with him, would have been horrible because it meant he was thought of as homeless, and would never make anything out of himself. On the evening of Christmas day Vince and his Mum came round. The final straw that made Link leave Bradford is that Vince began getting at him and no one, not even Carol stuck up for him. Carol paid for a one-way ticket to London for him and hugged him Good Bye: He chose London to become anonymous. Oliver was born into homelessness and the workhouse; his mother was an unknown woman in labour who had walked many miles to the workhouse, as there would be a doctor and a nurse there. His mother died in childbirth, making him an orphan with no known relations. He was sent to start out life in the baby farm. In the words of Charles Dickens He fell into place at once a parish child the orphan of the workhouse the humble, half starved drudge to be cuffed and buffeted through the world despised by all, and pitied by none. A Baby Farm is a House where one person will bring up many babies until they are 9; the owner of the farm (in Olivers case this was Mrs. Mann) would get Sevenpence halfpennys per child a week. This was a very fair diet for a child, this diet could supply enough to overload a childs stomach and make them feel uncomfortable. Mrs. Mann was a wise woman and used a very large proportion of the amount for her own needs. So Oliver spent the first nine years of his life at the Baby Farm (which far less children left than had entered) being under fed and treated badly. On his ninth birthday Mr. Bumble the parish beadle came to collect Oliver to take him to the Workhouse: at this stage in his life Dickens describes Oliver as A pale thin child, somewhat diminutive in stature, and decidedly small in circumference. Oliver had spent his ninth birthday in the coal shed with two other boys after being beaten. Mr. Bumble then took Oliver onto the next stage of his life, the workhouse; here Oliver was made to pick Oakum. Here his rations were three bowls of gruel a day, an onion twice a week and a roll on Sunday. After 7 or so months of this, one of the biggest boys in the dorm announced if he didnt get some more food soon hed eat the boy in the next bed. So all the boys drew lots to see who would go and ask for more; Oliver got the short straw. So after everyone had finished their gruel Oliver went up and said the famous line Please, sir, I want some more. After this Oliver was put in solitary confinement, publicly flogged and all the other boys were made to pray that they might never become like Oliver Twist. .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a , .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a .postImageUrl , .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a , .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a:hover , .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a:visited , .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a:active { border:0!important; } .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a:active , .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8999cb61b8a2c38aac5da0a0ccf80a6a:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Poetic Analysis of Song Lyrics EssayIn an effort to get rid of their most troublesome child the parish board decided to give 5 pounds to anyone who would take him up as an apprentice. Mr. Gamfield a chimney sweep first offered to take him up but together pleas by Oliver and some members of the board agreeing that chimney sweeping is a horrible job and also 2 boys had already died under Mr. Gamfield, they decided that Oliver would not become a chimney sweep. Next Mr. Sowerberry the Undertaker came and took Oliver. When Oliver arrived at the house he was so hungry he ate the dog scraps at this point Dickens says I wish some well fed philosopher, whos meat and drink turns to gall within him; whose blood is ice, whose heart is iron; could have seen Oliver Twist clutching at the dainty viands that the dog had neglected. I wish he could have witnessed the avidity with which Oliver tore the bits asunder with all the ferocity of famine. There is only one thing I should like better; and that would be to see the Philosopher making the same sort of meal himself with the same relish.

The Differences Between the 18th Century and Contemporary Hospitality Essay Example

The Differences Between the 18th Century and Contemporary Hospitality Essay THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE 18TH CENTURY AND CONTEMPORARY HOSPITALITY According to Ackroyd (Ackroyd, 2005), London hospitality took its origins in â€Å"public place of cookery† by the Thames in the 12th century. Then followed cook shops in the 16th century and eating houses, taverns or coffee shops, incredibly famous in the 18th. Without denying, London hospitality has undergone lots of changes to become what it is nowadays. Or has it? Are there real differences between modern and 18th century hospitality or are there mere changes of its forms? To begin with, contrary to what Ackroyd says, lots of authors consider the 18th century to be the birth of the hospitality in Britain. It could be due to different reasons. It was a time of great experimentation, political but also social. Great Britain was economically strong and the development of its middle class could not but contributed to this phenomenon. The technology discoveries participated greatly in the process with, for example, new technology of spirit distillation. The attitude to food had changed and the British begin to eat out socializing, showing off or just enjoying the food in a different place that is neither their home nor the one of their friends, colleagues, etc. One of these places was a coffee shop and it is still popular nowadays. One could find some in the Threadneedle Street, in St Martin’s Lane or at the corner of Pall Mall, convenient because of making it easy â€Å"to make appointments in any part of town† (Macaulay in Ackroyds, p. 320). They used to be the business places with certain clientele to be found in every one of them. Nowadays we can still find independent coffee shops with character, for example, Bullet Cafe (according to the guidebook of London). They are rare. A much more recent phenomenon are the cafe chains such as Starbucks or Coffee Republique. They tend to have little or no character, being built in a corporate style and often serve as a spare meeting room for local offices. Still serving as a meeting place with news and rumours, they are frequented predominantly by women. Actually, that is one of the main changes that have emerged the presence of women who used to be excluded from any kinds of public places in the 18th century with the exception of tea shops. Only men used to frequent the coffee shops and only men used to eat out in eating-houses which â€Å"in the 18th century became known as beef houses or chop houses, together with taverns specializing in more formal or protracted food† (Ackroyd). The famous ones were Dolly’s Chop-house in Paternoster Row or cook-shops behind St Martin-in-the-Fields. The common food was meat. The recipes were not sophisticated with little influence of foreign cuisines. At least they pretended to be so, as you could find elements of French cuisine, for example, in the cookery books of that time. Nowadays due to globalisation and social changes including the customers’ behavioural changes, the situation is completely different. There exist a great number of any types of restaurants in London, serving food of five continents with the ingredients of all over the world. They are eager to satisfy the demand of any customer, looking for a traditional or exotic food, heavy or sane, â€Å"expensive† or â€Å"cheap†, fast food or haute cuisine. You can find all these different types of food in another form of hospitality that existed also in the 18th century but at that time with the food particular to that period – take away. Surprisingly, in London it seems like this niche is not dominated by the global chains like McDonalds or KFC, etc to the extent they do in other countries. There exist lots of local independent businesses offering traditional fish and chips or Patoka or Chinese food and they constitute an important part of the take away market. We could also speak about new concepts of hospitality that didn’t exist before, like theatre cafe or restaurants with live music, clubs or degustation menus. Summarizing it up, we can agree that there exist differences between the hospitality of the 18th century London and of the modern one. We can cite globalisation, emancipation of women, technological advances, new organisational and social models as ones of the reasons of these changes. Yet one thing probably has not changed – seeing food as a symbol of the society it belongs to and being particular to its characteristics, the reasons why people eat out and the extent they could enjoy it. The thing is that every time we are looking for something new, different, special and the hospitality just follows us.

It takes INFJs a long time to truly open up to other people. #2: Determined and Passionate INFJs love a cause. They are passionate, determined fighters for what they believe in. When INFJs believe that something or someone is important, they will fight tirelessly for it. #3: Insightful INFJs are known for being able to see connections that others may not easily perceive. They can often see through deceit and have a penchant for knowing when they're being lied to. INFJs also understand emotions and make perceptive and intuitive friends, often knowing something is wrong before you do. #4: Perfectionistic INFJs believe in perfection- in business, in relationships, in friendships. They will fight to achieve great results in all aspects of their lives, but can be quick to drop people and situations if they feel that something is not working out as it should be. #5: Altruistic INFJs fight for the greater good. There's a reason why some of the most well-known humanitarians in history, including Mother Theresa and Gandhi, were INFJs. They don't want to advance themselves; they fight because they want to make the world a better place. What Are INFJs Like in Relationships? Now that we know more about what INFJs are like as people, what are they like in relationships? Are they loyal? Is an INFJ funny? Are they demanding? INFJs don't let new people into their lives easily, but once they do, they are warm, amiable companions. INFJs will fight for their friends, romantic partners, and family members tirelessly. They want to make sure their partners are happy and healthy. Is an INFJ funny? While, as introverts, INFJs don't love to be the center of attention at a party, they do like to joke around with their loved ones. In situations where they're comfortable, INFJs can even seem extroverted. The Bottom Line INFJs are loyal, caring, and intuitive companions. They love having a cause, and will fight tirelessly for people and ideas that they believe in. If you're lucky enough to know an INFJ, you're likely to have a positive, deep relationship.

Selection of a Cloud Computing Provider Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Selection of a Cloud Computing Provider - Essay Example There are a number of issues that companies may have with the cloud service providers. These include issues pertaining to the exit strategies as well. Generally companies make contract with providers keeping in mind the reputation that they have or referred by other industry counterparts. While the contract is at its initial stage of being formulated, none of the parties think seriously of termination of contract if they had to undertake in future. However, at the time of selection of appropriate cloud provider, it is imperative that along with the facilities the factors relating to the termination of the contract with the service providers should also be taken into account. Other inevitable issues include nature and amount of workload, the commercial viability of the project, legal and regulatory requirements and most importantly, the organization’s own strategic objectives. The nature of requirements, also has their role to play in selecting the appropriate cloud provider. For instance, the company needs to identify as to whether it has to acquire the service of cloud providers in respect of infrastructure, platform or software based. Public, private and hybrid clouds are generally formed as result of such complex requirements of the companies. So far as the implementation of cloud computing is concerned, it is conceived as the fragmented activity such that single cloud provider cannot do everything for its clients. As a result the implementation is carried out in such a manner that at the earlier stage those applications are implemented first, which have quick benefits so that continuity can be managed and disruptions can be minimized.

Case study 2 Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 2

2 - Case Study Example The reason one experiences pain in the right upper quadrant is because of the position of the gallbladder, and what happens to the gall bladder whenever it is blocked by the gallstones. The gall bladder has the cystic duct through which bile flows into the duodenum. A blockade of this duct means that bile cannot pass through. It becomes concentrated in the gall bladder causing irritation and inflammation. This inflammation causes pain that radiates to the surrounding parts. This is why an individual with gallstones experiences pain in the right upper quadrant that may further extend to the back (Whitney & Pinna 565; Bluth & Benson 1). When one eats, more bile is produced from the liver, and this goes into the already inflamed gall bladder. The act of eating stimulates the gall bladder to contract and push the bile into the duodenum for the normal digestion process. Because of the existence of the gallstone on the cystic duct, the contraction causes pain (Crutchlow, Dudac, MacAvoy and Madara 213). If Martha gets lucky and the doctor finds out that the gallstones can be dislodged, they will pass through the duodenum. Here they can be dissolved using ursodeoxycholic acid, or can pass through the intestine (DeBruyne, Whitney & Pinna

Nature of Public Administration Essay Example for Free

Nature of Public Administration Essay Before we discuss about the meaning, definition, nature, scope and importance of public administration we will try to know what is administration, organisation and management. As these terms are often used interchangeably and synonymously, it is pertinent to know the differences and distinctions between these three terms. According to William Schulze Administration is the force, which lays down the object for which an organisation and its management are to strive and the broad policies under which they are to operate. An Organisation is a combination of the necessary human beings, materials, tools, equipment and working space, appurtenances brought together in systematic and effective co-relation to accomplish some desired object. Management is that which leads guides and directs an organisation for the accomplishment of pre-determined object. To put the above in simple terms, administration sets the goal, management strives to attain it and organisation is the machine of the management for the attainment of the ends determined by the administration. Some scholars have a different view about the administration and management. According to Peter Drucker management is associated with the business activity, which has to show economic performance, whereas administration is associated with the non business activities like activities of the Government. The other view is that administration is associated with performing routine things in known settings in accordance with certain procedures, rules, and regulations. The Management is associated with performing functions like risk taking, dynamic, creative and innovative functions. Some scholars of Public Administration are closely associated with the first view that is, administration is a determinative function. Management, on other hand is an executive function that is primarily concerned with carrying out the broad policies laid down by the administration.

Veronica - Why Doesnt Veronica Leave For The City? Essay -- essays res

The city is an elegant place to live. It calls to the people from the inferior village life. The well led life followed by the city people offers many opportunities compared to the hopelessness of village surroundings. It offers hope, the chance to be independent, the chance of a job. In the story Veronica by Adewale Maja-Pearce, Okekà © the ever lasting friend of Veronica is drawn by the attraction of the city for the opportunities he sees for himself. Veronica on the other hand does not desire to leave their decomposing village for the city. She decides this for a number of reasons. One of the reasons why Veronica decides not to go to the city is due to her lack of education. She feels that the city has nothing to offer her and her place is the village. She says, 'What will I do when I get there, I have no qualifications not even a standard six' She is aware that she needs qualifications to succeed in the city and without them, she sees no point in going. Another reason associated with this is to do with Veronica's expectations. If Veronica's expectations were not so low, she may have gone to the city with Okekà ©. Veronica says, 'They are my family that is enough' This line is an example of Veronica's low expectations. She feels her family is enough and she needs nothing else. Another example of Veronicas low expectations is when Okekà © comes back after ten years to find Veronica with a child a husband. Another example is, 'God has blessed us with a son. Is that not e...

High School is Not for everyone Essay

Have you ever heard the statement, â€Å"College is not for everyone†? Well what if we took it a little further and said that high school is not for everyone? Is this a reasonable statement to make and is it sensible enough to even be considered? Carol Jago believes so; she says that entrance to high school ought not be automatic, and that only those demonstrating â€Å"minimum competency in math, reading and writing† be allowed to enroll in high school (191). Should this proposal be ignored or admired? Carol Jago says that at the end of middle school all students should take an exam, an exam which will ultimately determine their future. The exam will have the basics of everything that the students have learned thus far on it and depending on what the score is, the student will be subject to high school if they pass, apprenticeships if they fail, or classes that will allow them to retake the test if they fail. In my opinion, this is a magnificent idea. I do not believe that steady schooling is for everyone. Why not start off early with our choice of career rather than waste more time in school? If you know for sure that you would like to be a plumber, carpenter or even a warehouse worker what is the point in continuing your education further than the simple basics? In most high schools, about half of the students do not pay attention while in the classroom. This ultimately causes a disturbance, disabling the rest of the students who actually care about their work to not learn and the teachers to get off track or behind with teaching the desired material. With Jago’s plan we can weed out these sorts of problems and supply a richer education in the classrooms. On a more personal level, I myself changed high schools because of this very problem. When I was in the classroom I felt as though the teachers were taking more time disciplining students than teaching the actual coursework. I then realized that this was not the place for me because I wanted a richer education; therefore I changed schools. I went to a high school that hand selected the students based on academic success thus far and talent. By making that change I feel as though I learned more things and had more doors opened for me then I could have ever imagined at the other high school. His plan is a win-win situation but of course there are areas that one may question. For example, at such an early age children don’t know exactly what they want to do with life yet. Therefore making such a life changing decision is very critical and many people won’t agree with it. At the end of middle school children are about 14 years old. While they are in the teen stage of their life, they still are not capable of saying that they don’t want to continue with high school and that they will work with their hands for the rest of their life. After they make this decision there is no turning back. This ultimately adds stress to the youth earlier to figure out what they would like to do with their life. But, as stated before, why not weed out the kids who just don’t want to be there anyway? In order to come to a common ground. It could be changed so that there is not an entrance exam to high school as an whole, but there be an entrance exam to all classes that the students will take. For example if a student is entered for biology they will have to take the science test to see if they are at a point that’s eligible for them to take the class. This then creates a middle area for the two ideas. People who are behind in class will be put in a classroom together and the ones who care and know their work will be together. This method is adopted by many private schools. Today’s students arrive with a wide range of backgrounds. Correct placement ensures higher success rates for students. Students are more satisfied with the education they are receiving, and instructors can focus on teaching the content of the course instead of dealing with ill-prepared students. Institutions can plan appropriate levels of courses and be confident that they are meeting students’ needs. (Maple T. A) But what is the opposite of adapting the plan? Simply allowing things to stay the way that they are? Our youth will continue to receive poor education and waste their time. This is becoming more and more of a problem every day and if we don’t take action it will only hurt our future because children are the future. There needs to be a change. Could A Machine Be Conscious - 2962 Words

1 Could a machine be conscious? This question is often dismissed as simple by those that would say â€Å"yes† in response. The usual claim made by the pro camp is that man is a ‘biological machine’ and is conscious, ergo, a machine is conscious. If we, humans, are truly biological machines and we are at the same time conscious then I would agree that yes, categorically, a machine could be conscious. But is it really that simple? I contend that it is a more difficult problem but not that it is a complicated one, merely one of ambiguity which, once resolved, leads the contemplator to the same conclusion as I do that in fact, no, a machine could not be conscious. I propose that those who argue the yes case that a machine can be conscious are, in†¦show more content†¦They are all actions definable in their own right, which, I contend need not be sub categories of, or allocated to the definition of consciousness and, unlike the ‘hard problem’ of consciousness which we will come to shortly, they can be explained by science in a physical context and therefore be impersonated by machinery. They have physical qualities which are an important distinction in the 3 concept of Artificial Intelligence which claims the ability of machines to achieve consciousness, arising in theory out of intelligence. The most prominent example of the concept of a machine being intelligent in the manner of this so called consciousness is the Turing test (Turing, 1950) which, rather tellingly, was originally called the ‘Imitation Game’. The test was designed to see if a machine could fool a human into thinking it was itself another human, and although somewhat successful with ‘Eliza’ (Weizenbaum 1976), the premise was quickly, and I opine correctly, attacked by Searle (1980:417-57) in his ‘Chinese Room’ thought experiment, proving that a machine can simulate communication without understanding and is therefore not thinking in the way humans, or perhaps other living things do. Humans exhibit the ability to pass tests without understanding the material and, I contend, this is what a machine simulates, the function of memory, not intelligence. The Statue of Liberty In 1865 when the American Civil War was close to the end, a French historian Edouard de Laboulaye suggested that France should create and give to the United States a statue that would symbolize the nation’s success in building a viable democracy. The creator of the statue is the French sculptor Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi who created the statue out of sheets of hammered copper and Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel, the creator of Eiffel Tower created the statue’s steel frame. Business Strategy Strategic Risk Mangement

Question: Discuss about the Business Strategy for Strategic Risk Mangement. Answer: Introduction: Resources and core competences of a company signify the strength of a company. It is based on the availability of the resources and core competencies that a company successfully competes in the competitive market (Greene, Brush and Brown 2015). The discussion is based on the case study of Rocket Internet, a Berlin based start up incubator and venture capital firm. Resources of an organization are the assets and other things available to an organization that helps in the production process. The resources include human resource, capital or monetary resources and raw material used for production. Importance of the availability of different resources depends on the nature and type of the organization (Hansen and Rocha 2016). In case of a software company, human resource is the most important resource because the complete functionality of the organization depends on the ability of the human working for the organization. If the situation of Rocket Internet has to be considered, the primary resource of the company is the Human Capital. The three brothers act as the basic infrastructure of the Company. All the ventures of the Company are carried on with the ability of these owners. Other resources of the company might include the machinery and other equipment required for carrying out the business activities (Skarzynski and Gibson 2013). Computers, internet network and other technological supports are the raw materials required by the company to achieve their target (Frigo and Anderson 2012). Therefore, it can be said that the major resource of the Company is Human Capital that include the three brothers and others working for the Company. Core competencies of a company or organization are its unique features and capabilities that provide a competitive advantage to the company (Greene, Brush and Brown 2015). It is based on the particular core competency, that a company is able to fight the increasing competition in the market. Core competencies typically consists of fundamental knowledge, ability of the person and their expertise in a specific subject area (Frigo and Anderson 2012). It is on the basis of the core competencies, a company can reach out a global market and cannot be replicated easily by other competitors. In the case study, it can be said that the core competency of the business firm is their ability to copy other resources in the fastest possible time and reach it out far and wide around the globe. Rocket Internet has been successfully imitate the online shopping version of eBay and created a German version of it; later, sold it for $50m to eBay. Owner of the company, The Samwer Brothers have became experts in spotting and promising business models. The company had acquired several other business ventures of imitating the original idea and had been successful in their business (Kashi and Friedrich 2013). Therefore, the successful ideas of imitating successful business ventures that the Brothers come up with can be considered as the core competency of their business. Research Strategies

Question: Write an essay on the Case Study and Critical Analysis of "Research Strategies Beyond the Differences."? Answer: The work of Dan Remenyi has showed that every community like physical, scientific and social science requires a logical and analytical outlook, and they are materially similar. Moreover, the work that has been done by Dan Ramenyi highlighted that the theoretical knowledge incorporated with some stigma of values results in positive outcomes in all these field of expertise. Dan Ramenyi also showed valid evidence and comparison while stating his argument. He showed that the effort, analysis and experimental approach required similar advancement and intensity in the case of life science, physical science and social science related studies. Moreover, all these streams have a record of more than three hundred years of research history. However, the research works and findings related to life science and physical science studies have achieved more mass attention and acclamation (Ramenyi, 2002). On the other hand, the Business and Management studies related to the social sciences of study ha ve obtained very less acknowledgement from the ordinary people. The achievement of social science studies have failed to draw the attention of the majority of the people, but it has solved more daunting and challenging tasks in the past according to the analysis of Dan Remenyi (Kratochwill, 2013). In the research paper, Dan Remenyi has tried to make people aware of the achievement of the social science. However, he maintained modesty and does not criticize the biases and peoples favouritism towards the stream of life science and physical sciences. He tried to convince people and establish the fact that human intellect is the primary factor in determining the achievements of social science, physical science and life science while considering them as an individual aspect (Ostrom et al. 2010). Moreover, he clarified the idea that the research process associated with these three branches of science has similar interesting and analytical thoughts and approaches to the world and the environment. On the other hand, Dan Remenyi has also provided insight into these three distinct fields. He proposed that the results and outcomes that are achieved from the research works related to these areas are acquired by proper application of ideas, analysis and observation (Ramenyi, 2002). From th is statement, it was clear that he does not want to criticize any branch of study rather he wanted to spread awareness among the common people about the achievement and contribution of social science towards the current society and the world. On the other hand, he tried to highlight the attractive side of social science and promoted the idea of Business and Management studies as the central focal point (Tashakkori and Teddlie, 2010). He also attempted to improve the quality of statements and academic works related to social science. Adding to this, he also tried to remove the fear of social researchers and scientist on repetition or redundancy related factors of social science and Business and Management Studie (Ramenyi, 2002). Dan Remenyi also emphasized on making the research work and related questions more interesting so that it can draw more attention and acknowledgement from the common people. The primary concern of the researcher is to increase the acceptance of social science among the common mass and at the same time try to make some revolutionary changes in this field of the study. Hence, he tried to make a thesis, and he want to test it considering the feedback from the common people and the general population of our society. He also added that a thesis is not about the application of substantial and costly instruments rather its success totally depends on the prospect of its results and outcomes (Ramenyi, 2002). He also stated that the thesis work should be made in such a way that it can change the mindset of the common people and also contribute heavily to the welfare of the society. It can be stated that the work of Dan Remenyi is highly focused on lifting the morals of the social science worke rs and social science researchers. In this growing competitive world, people are only praising the life science and physical science researchers, whereas Dan Remenyi wanted to break this social dogma and bring a change in the society (Rafols et al. 2012). Moreover, he wanted to sharpen the concept of quantitative tool and analysis process to improve the research work and explore certain types of research questions in case of social science. He also tried to improve the quality of research questionnaires that might help to acquire a standard and accurate result in Business and Management studies. Hence, his work emphasized more on research survey and quantitative techniques and rejected interpretive methodologies concerning social science and Business and management research works (Myers, 2013). Further, Dan Remenyi has showed various common aspects of research studies and methods related to the field of social science, life science and physical science. He has conveyed that all the research works require a proper testing approach (Ramenyi, 2002). Moreover, the research work related to these fields is solely based on the result and data interpretations and forming a convincing argument. In a word, Remenyi tried to convey that the success and achievement of the research paper and theses related to these field of studies require a similar approach regarding the material and quality of the work. Hence, by conveying this Remenyi wanted to draw a single line of similarity between the research and analytical approach between these three fields of studies. Hence, by doing this, he was almost successful in inflicting a sense of acknowledgement towards the social science and tried to break the ignorant attitude and biasedness of the common mass (Adam, 2014). All the arguments stated by Dan Ramenyi have highlighted immensely on the fact that the research work based on natural, physical, scientific or social aspect have no basic differences. Moreover, all these research works are based on presenting and highlighting a positive outcome and values towards the theoretical knowledge (Ramenyi, 2002). Hence, he was successful in convincing people that the social scientists have an equal role in the society similar to a physical science or life science scientists in imposing knowledge and enlighten the community and the people. Economics Of Healthcare In The Uk Essays - , Term Papers

Economics Of Healthcare In The Uk Economics & The Welfare State Essay Healthcare Good health is an important factor to an individual's welfare. It is an essential prerequisite for the enjoyment of life. For this reason the importance of healthcare to governments is great and vast amounts of resources are allocated to healthcare, for example in the UK healthcare equates for 6% of GNP. Some argue that Healthcare is a social issue rather than economic but the allocation of scarce resources and the inelastic demand for healthcare lends it self to economic analysis. Equitable allocation of a commodity is one in which everyone receives a minimum standard and quantity. So in terms of full equality in the society everyone should consume the commodity equally. In healthcare this argument becomes complicated, should everyone receive a minimum standard of healthcare? Or should everyone get the best healthcare available? The truth is that hospital buildings, doctors and medical equipment all take up resources. The best standard of healthcare could only be given if all of the government's resources were allocated to the provision of health. This would be a foolish thing to do, as other commodities would not be produced which may be detrimental to health and other aspects of life. Healthcare is different from all other products in that the (supplier) doctor knows more about it than the (consumer) patient. Consumers can distinguish between two types of product and choose the one, which gives them greatest utility but with health care the patient is not educated enough about medicine to choose between two treatments and must therefore go with what the doctor recommends. This imbalance of knowledge gives the healthcare industry suppliers monopoly power. A healthcare supplier could lower the standard of service and not fear loss of customers. A doctor may also recommend a treatment that is costly and therefore will bring in higher profit for himself without the average person knowing any better. Economics

Free Essays on Advertising Ethics Free Essays on Advertising Ethics The age of advertising today is not what it used to be years ago. Pharmaceutical companies are spending on average billions of dollars to market their drugs directly to the consumers. With this comes a potential harm to some consumers due to the fact that they feel like they are free to ask for anything that may stop the symptoms they have. Should the FDA take a stand in putting a stop to how certain drugs are marketed, or just continue to let it get out of control? Who should be able to control the prescriptions: the patient or the doctor? Take the drug Prozac for our first example: it’s in rock lyrics, magazines, books and billboards. I don’t think there are too many people who have not heard of it or that in some point of their lives were not on it. Many parents are turning to their children’s doctor to put them on it because of problems they may be having at home. In an article from The Economist I found that it is illegal in Europe to advertise prescription drugs. They are allowed to market they’re over the counter drugs but an advertisement for a prescription drug can only be found in medical journals. It was felt that advertising prescriptions filled the heads of consumers and it could undermine the doctor’s authority. Lilly Pharmaceutical company did a two page spread on Prozac that had one page with a dark rainy sky with the words â€Å"Depression Hurts† and on the other side was a bright sunny sky with the words â€Å"Prozac can help†.(Vol.344) Prozac may be good for some people but for others it may not be the drug they need, and because of ads like that they feel the need to pressure their physician for a prescription for it.
